Cueva de Nerja

Cueva de Nerja is a cave system near the town of Nerja in the province of Málaga, Andalusia, Spain, discovered in 1959. The site contains extensive speleothems, large chambers and areas with prehistoric art and archaeological deposits.

The cave’s large halls and acoustics make certain chambers suitable for musical events and guided tours, and visitors commonly tour marked routes through the accessible chambers. Highlight features include vast stalactite and stalagmite formations and areas of archaeological interest.

Archaeological and scientific investigations have documented human use and artistic activity in parts of the cave, leading to ongoing conservation and controlled public access. The cave has been adapted for tourism with lighting, walkways and an on-site visitor centre.

The cave entrance and visitor facilities lie just outside the coastal town of Nerja on the southern slopes of the Sierra Almijara range in Andalusia, roughly a short drive from Málaga province’s coastal road.
