Croscat

Croscat is a cinder-cone volcano in the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park in Catalonia, near the town of Olot. It is a well-studied volcanic cone formed by basaltic pyroclastic deposits and is part of a larger volcanic landscape with lava flows and cones.

The site includes trails and viewpoints that allow visitors to see the cone and nearby lava fields; an interpretive route explains the volcanic geology and the human impact from past quarrying. The cone’s profile and exposed inner layers provide clear evidence of its cinder-cone structure and eruptive deposits.

In the 20th century the cone was altered by quarrying for scoria; subsequent restoration and park management have stabilised the area and provided controlled visitor access. The site is managed within the Garrotxa park framework to balance geoconservation and recreation.

Croscat sits in the volcanic zone of La Garrotxa in northeastern Spain, surrounded by a landscape of forests and basaltic lava flows, with Olot as the nearest town and park visitor centre.
