When: June - August each year, with the Grand Kadooment parade and national holiday in early August.

Bridgetown’s Crop Over is a weeks-long celebration that evolved from the island’s sugar-cane harvest traditions into Barbados’ biggest cultural festival. It began as a plantation-era harvest ritual and has been reshaped over time into a modern carnival showcasing local music, costume and community pride in Barbados.

The atmosphere mixes boisterous street parades, ticketed fetes, calypso and soca shows, and intimate rum shops; daytime island events and evening parties culminate in the colourful Kadooment bands that parade through the capital and along coastal roads on the finale day, creating a cross-island party vibe.

Crop Over runs from June through August with events spread across those months; the festival builds through June and July with fetes, competitions and tent shows. The climax is Grand Kadooment on Kadooment Day - observed as a public holiday on the first Monday in August - when the big masquerade bands take to the road.

Plan for a series of key weekends in July leading into early August when the biggest concerts, calypso finals and carnival parties concentrate.

Fly into Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), the main international airport serving Bridgetown and Barbados; the airport is a short taxi or shuttle ride from accommodation hubs. Arrive several days before the Grand Kadooment to collect band materials or tickets, and book flights and lodgings well in advance.

• Book accommodation, fete tickets and band places months ahead - popular hotels and villas sell out early.
• Dress for heat and humidity: light fabrics, sunscreen, a hat and comfortable shoes; brief tropical showers are possible.
• Carry small cash for street vendors; ATMs are available in Bridgetown but queues grow during festival weekends.
• If joining a band, bring your wristband and ID; do not attempt to enter band areas without proper registration.
• Use licensed taxis or official shuttles on event days, keep valuables secure, and stay hydrated when dancing in the sun.
• Remember Kadooment Day is a public holiday: transport and shops can be disrupted, so plan your return or onward travel accordingly.
