Croda da Lago is a compact mountain group in the Dolomites of Veneto, northern Italy, situated near Cortina d’Ampezzo. The group includes jagged ridges and rocky summits overlooking alpine lakes and is a recognized area for hiking and mountain photography.

How to Get to Croda da Lago #
Access is easiest from Cortina d’Ampezzo (about 20-30 minutes’ drive depending on exact trailhead). From Cortina take local mountain roads toward Passo Giau or follow signs to Lago di Federa; several marked hiking trails start near rifugi around the lake.
Tips for Visiting Croda da Lago #
- Approach via Cortina d'Ampezzo and use the Rifugio-to-lake footpaths-early morning light on the dolomitic walls is unbeatable.
- Bring a lightweight map: multiple trails circle Lago di Federa and hikers often miss the short spur to the best viewpoints.
- If planning via hut-to-hut, reserve rifugi in summer (July-Aug) when the Dolomites are busiest.
