The Coves del Drach are a group of show caves on the east coast of Mallorca near Porto Cristo, in the Balearic Islands of Spain, known for extensive galleries and an underground lake. They are among the island’s best-known cave systems and are open to the public as a guided attraction.
Visitors follow an illuminated route through caverns and passageways that culminates at a large underground lake where a short live-music performance is part of the tour. The cave routes include stalactite and stalagmite formations and accessible walkways and stairs maintained for visitor circulation.
The caves were explored and developed for tourism in the 19th and 20th centuries with progressively organised guided visits. Over time infrastructure such as lighting, walkways and the visitor route has been added to support public access while protecting formations.
The caves lie on Mallorca’s eastern shore near the town of Porto Cristo, a short coastal drive from the island’s main airport and Palma. The site is located at low elevation close to sea level among coastal limestone outcrops.
- Tour information: Guided tours run on set schedules and include a short musical performance on the underground lake; photography rules and tour capacities are enforced for safety.
What to See #
- Lake Martel: A large underground freshwater lake within the caves where concerts are held and small electric boats are used during guided tours.

Tips for Visiting Coves del Drach #
- Reserve a timed-entry ticket in advance for the Coves del Drach-popular time slots (including the live classical-music boat concert on Lake Martel) sell out quickly, especially in summer.
- Aim for an early or late tour to avoid the peak coach-bus arrivals mid‑day; Porto Cristo's main tourist buses tend to converge between late morning and mid‑afternoon.
- Don't skip the underground boat concert on Lake Martel-most visitors underestimate how short but atmospheric that part of the visit is, and planning your arrival around the concert times makes the trip smoother.
