Córdoba Synagogue

The Córdoba Synagogue is a small medieval synagogue located in Córdoba’s historic Jewish Quarter. It dates to the early 14th century and is one of the best-preserved examples of medieval Jewish architecture in Spain.

The interior preserves original stucco work, carved stone elements and Hebrew inscriptions around the prayer hall and Torah niche. The building’s compact plan and decorative program reflect its role as a communal worship space for Córdoba’s medieval Jewish community.

After the late 15th century the building was used for other purposes and later underwent periods of restoration to reveal and conserve its medieval fabric. It is now managed as a historic monument and is open to visitors for short self-guided visits.

The synagogue stands in Córdoba’s Judería, within the historic centre near the Mosque-Cathedral complex and other monuments of the old city.

• Significance: One of the few medieval synagogues in Spain to survive from before the 1492 expulsion; it retains original carved and stucco decoration and Hebrew inscriptions.
