The Corbières Massif is a rugged limestone mountain area in southern France, lying in the eastern foothills of the Pre-Pyrenees across the departments of Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales. It is characterised by steep ridges, dry garrigue scrubland and karstic terrain.

The massif includes a number of prominent summits and isolated peaks; Pic de Bugarach, at about 1,231 metres, is the most prominent and often cited high point. The area contains numerous medieval ruined fortresses and castles associated with the Cathar period, sited on high limestone escarpments.

Corbières also supports extensive viticulture on its lower slopes and plains, producing wines under the Corbières and Fitou appellations. The landscape transitions from Mediterranean coastal influences to more montane conditions inland.

Human use over centuries has included pastoralism, viticulture and the construction of hilltop defensive sites, leaving a mix of natural and cultural landmarks across the massif.

  • Landscape character: The massif is a rugged, largely limestone range in southern France forming the eastern foothills of the Pre-Pyrenees and is known for garrigue scrub, rocky ridges and dry valleys.
