The Convent of Christ in Tomar is a historic castle-convent complex in Tomar, Portugal, combining a 12th-century fortress and a large convent complex expanded over several centuries. It is especially noted for its Templar rotunda and for later Manueline and Gothic architectural additions.

Distinctive features include the Charola, a 12th-century round church, and richly carved Manueline portals and cloisters from the 15th and 16th centuries. The site served as a strategic and religious center during the medieval and Age of Discovery periods.

The complex sits in the town of Tomar in Portugal’s Santarém District, roughly 130 kilometers north of Lisbon.

The Convent of Christ sits above the town of Tomar. Tomar is reachable by train from Lisbon (change at Entroncamento on many services) or by car: it’s about 120-140 km north of Lisbon (roughly 1h15-1h40 by car via the A1 and A23 depending on route and traffic). From Tomar’s town center and train station the convent is an uphill walk of roughly 10-20 minutes (about 1 km) or a short taxi ride.
