Chopok
Mountain Mountain peak in Low Tatras popular for skiing
Peak in the Low Tatras serving the Jasná ski area; visitors arrive for winter skiing on its lifts and for summer hiking routes and panoramic central-Slovakia views.
Chopok is a major mountain peak in Slovakia’s Low Tatras range, rising to about 2,024 metres above sea level. It is a well known destination for both hiking in summer and alpine skiing in winter.
The mountain supports extensive ski infrastructure on its northern flank at the Jasná resort, including lifts and groomed pistes, while marked hiking trails and lift links on the southern side provide access for summer walkers. From the summit and ridgelines there are panoramic views of the Low Tatras and routes connecting to neighbouring peaks such as Ďumbier.
Chopok has long been used for traditional mountain pastoralism and seasonal travel through the Low Tatras; recreational development of lifts and ski facilities expanded during the 20th century and continues to be improved for year-round tourism.
