Cheradi Islands
Islands Small island group off Taranto coast, Italy
A small archipelago off Taranto in Apulia, lying in the Gulf of Taranto. Day-trippers and boaters visit for beaches, snorkeling and short excursions from the mainland.
The Cheradi Islands are two small islets in the Mar Grande off the city of Taranto in the Apulia region of southern Italy. The pair is traditionally known as San Pietro and San Paolo and sits close to Taranto’s harbour.
The islands are small, largely undeveloped and have been associated with anchorage and naval activity given their position at the mouth of the harbour. They are visible from the Taranto waterfront and are part of the maritime landscape of the gulf.
Over time they have served practical maritime functions more than leisure or resort purposes, remaining modest in size and infrastructure. Access is generally by small boat from Taranto when allowed.
Geographically the Cheradi islets lie a short distance off Taranto’s seafront within the Gulf of Taranto, in southern Italy’s Ionian coastal waters.
