Château Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild is a major Bordeaux wine estate in the Pauillac appellation on the Médoc’s left bank. It is globally known for its wines and for commissioning an artist-designed label for nearly every vintage since 1945.

The estate includes roughly ninety hectares of vineyards planted to classic Bordeaux grape varieties, extensive underground cellars for vinification and ageing, and a historic château building that hosts tastings and displays about the estate’s history. The estate’s annually commissioned label art is exhibited in part at the property and is a frequent attraction for visitors and collectors.

Long associated with the Rothschild family, the estate’s modern reputation was shaped in the 19th and 20th centuries; it was elevated to Premier Cru status in the official Bordeaux classification in 1973. The artistic label programme was expanded under Baron Philippe de Rothschild after World War II.

Situated in the commune of Pauillac on the Médoc peninsula, the château lies on the Gironde estuary’s left bank in the Bordeaux wine region, roughly fifty kilometres northwest of the city of Bordeaux.
