Château Margaux
Castle Iconic Margaux estate producing Premier Grand Cru wines
Historic Margaux estate in the Médoc famed for first-growth wines and a classical château; visitors come for tastings, vineyard views and architectural elegance, often by appointment.
Château Margaux is a historic Bordeaux wine estate in the Margaux commune of the Médoc, noted as one of the region’s top properties. It was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification.
The estate is best known for its wines and for tours that focus on vineyard terroir, the barrel cellars and formal reception rooms in the château. Wine tastings, where offered, concentrate on the estate’s Grand Vin and second wines produced from Cabernet Sauvignon- and Merlot-based blends.
The château building and landscaped approach are themselves a draw, with the present neoclassical mansion dating from the early 19th century and the ageing cellars visible on guided tours.
The site has been cultivated for wine for several centuries; the château and the modern reputation of the estate were consolidated in the 18th and 19th centuries and formalized by inclusion in the 1855 classification. The estate has remained one of Bordeaux’s leading properties through subsequent ownership changes and modernization of winemaking.
The property sits in the Margaux appellation on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Margaux village is roughly 30-40 km northwest of central Bordeaux, within the Médoc wine district.
