Château de Hautefort

Château de Hautefort is a 17th-century château in the village of Hautefort in the Dordogne department of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, built on the site of an earlier medieval fortress.

The château presents a formal, terraced French garden on several levels and an adjoining English-style park. Interior visits include period salons and state rooms with 17th- and 18th-century decoration, and terraces offer broad views over the surrounding wooded valley.

A medieval fortress originally occupied the site; the visible château and much of the present façade date from a major rebuilding in the 17th century, with later alterations and garden remodelling in subsequent centuries. The site has been adapted over time from a defensive stronghold into a residential and representational estate.

It sits in the village of Hautefort in Dordogne, southwest France, roughly 30 km east of Périgueux in a wooded, rural landscape.
