Château de Dinan is a medieval fortress within the walled town of Dinan in Brittany, notable for its prominent keep and intact sections of town walls. The castle and ramparts form a visible part of the town’s historic defensive ensemble.
The castle and town fortifications were built during the Middle Ages as part of Dinan’s defensive system and were expanded and repaired over subsequent centuries. The keep and walls have survived as the main medieval structures while the surrounding town developed within the fortifications.
The château lies inside the centre of Dinan in the Côtes-d’Armor department, overlooking the River Rance and the town’s historic port. Dinan is on the Rance valley, approximately 40 km southwest of Saint-Malo by road.
