The Château de Belcastel is a medieval fortress overlooking the Aveyron valley in the Aveyron department of Occitanie in southern France, notable for a substantial 20th-century restoration. The château and adjacent stone village present a compact example of restored medieval architecture.
The castle has medieval origins and fell into ruin before being comprehensively restored in the 1970s by architect Fernand Pouillon and collaborators. Since restoration it has functioned as a heritage site with exhibition space and has helped revive the historic village.
The château sits above the village of Belcastel in Aveyron, on the banks of the Aveyron river, in a rural valley landscape. The nearest larger towns are Rodez and Villefranche-de-Rouergue in Occitanie.
