Charles Darwin National Park is a protected area on the outskirts of Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory, named for Charles Darwin. The park conserves remnant monsoonal woodland and coastal habitats while also preserving wartime heritage sites.
Visitors can follow short walking tracks that pass through native vegetation and lead to lookout points and remnants of World War II defenses. The park is used for short hikes, birdwatching and heritage interpretation rather than extensive backcountry recreation.
The area was used during World War II for coastal defense and later set aside for conservation and public recreation to protect both natural and historical values. Military relics and defensive earthworks remain as part of the park’s interpreted history.
The park lies a few kilometres from central Darwin within the municipality of Darwin in the Northern Territory. It occupies elevated ground that provides views over parts of the city and surrounding coastal plain.
