Caves of Han-sur-Lesse

The Caves of Han-sur-Lesse are a well-known limestone show-cave system at Han-sur-Lesse in Wallonia, Belgium and one of the country’s principal cave attractions.

Guided routes lead through an underground river-carved system with multiple large chambers and abundant stalactite and stalagmite formations. Tours run along prepared footpaths through illuminated caverns, and the site’s visitor complex offers interpretation and surface attractions.

The caves were formed by the action of the River Lesse dissolving limestone over long geological time. The natural cavities have been visited for centuries and developed for organised tourism during the modern era.

The caves lie at the village of Han-sur-Lesse in the municipality of Rochefort, in the Ardennes/Condroz region of Wallonia; the visitor complex includes a parking area and surface parkland adjacent to the cave entrance.
