Cathedral of St Bavo, Haarlem

Cauberg is a steep-sided hill near the town of Valkenburg aan de Geul in the Dutch province of Limburg, known for its role in road cycling and local tourism. Its summit stands at roughly 137 metres above sea level.

The climb up Cauberg is used by cyclists at all levels and is noted for a short, sustained gradient; the ascent is roughly 800-900 metres in length with an average gradient around 5-6 percent and steeper ramps in places. It is frequently included in professional races and local cycling events, and there are viewpoints near the top looking over Valkenburg and the Geul valley.

Cauberg’s prominence in competitive cycling grew in the 20th century as organized road races in Limburg developed; it has since become a recurring feature of Dutch racing calendars and international events held in the region.

The hill lies immediately outside the centre of Valkenburg aan de Geul in southern Limburg, within about 15 kilometres of the city of Maastricht and set in the hilly Geul valley landscape.
