Casa de Campo
Park Madrid's largest public park and leisure complex
Madrid’s Casa de Campo is a vast urban park with a lake, the Teleférico cable car, and nearby zoo and amusement park; visitors cycle, row, and use trails that extend from the city center.
Casa de Campo is a large public park and greenbelt immediately west of central Madrid in the Community of Madrid, covering over a thousand hectares and serving as the city’s main urban park. It combines forested areas, recreational facilities and several major visitor attractions.
The park contains an artificial lake used for rowing and leisure, the Zoo Aquarium de Madrid and the Parque de Atracciones amusement park, plus miles of trails for walking, cycling and horseback riding. A cable car provides an aerial link to the city and popular viewpoints give wide views across Madrid and the park.
Originally a royal hunting estate, the grounds were incorporated into the city’s recreational system and opened progressively for public use; the park’s facilities and attractions expanded through the 20th century. Urban planning has preserved much of the park’s woodland character while adding visitor amenities.
Casa de Campo occupies the western edge of Madrid’s central districts, bounded in part by the Manzanares River, and is directly accessible from the city by public transit and road.
- Size: Spanning over a thousand hectares, the park is Madrid's largest green space and a major recreational area for residents and visitors.
- Visiting tips: Best visited on weekdays or early mornings to avoid busy weekend crowds, and accessible by Metro (station Lago) and several bus routes.
