Museum Renaissance chapel in Bergamo, noted for ornate façade

The Cappella Colleoni is a 15th-century Renaissance funerary chapel in Bergamo Alta, Lombardy, built as the monumental tomb of the condottiero Bartolomeo Colleoni and completed in the late 1400s.
Commissioned by Bartolomeo Colleoni in the mid-15th century, the chapel was executed by regional Renaissance workshops; Giovanni Antonio Amadeo is closely associated with its design and execution. Since its completion it has functioned as a funerary chapel and civic monument and has been preserved as part of Bergamo’s historical ensemble.
Positioned in Bergamo Alta on the upper town near Piazza Vecchia in Lombardy, the chapel is within walking distance of the civic centre and is one of the principal monuments of the historic hilltop core.
- Architecture note: The exterior is noted for a richly polychrome marble façade and a finely proportioned late-15th-century design by Giovanni Antonio Amadeo.
- Visitor tip: Located in Bergamo Alta, the chapel is easily visited together with the nearby civic sights around Piazza Vecchia.
