Cape Range (South) National Park
National Park National park with rugged ranges and coastal landscapes
South Cape Range National Park sits on Western Australia’s Ningaloo coast, noted for limestone ridges, deep gorges, red escarpments and access to Ningaloo Reef-snorkeling, reef kayaking and wildlife watching draw visitors.
Cape Range (South) National Park is the southern portion of Cape Range National Park on the North West Cape of Western Australia, protecting rugged limestone ranges, gorges and arid coastal plains adjacent to the Ningaloo coastline.
The range is a karst landscape carved from ancient limestone; the area has long been used by Indigenous peoples of the region and later incorporated into the national park to protect its geology, flora and fauna. Management has focused on conserving terrestrial habitats in proximity to the protected Ningaloo reef systems offshore.
Situated on the North West Cape of Western Australia, the southern park area sits near the town of Exmouth on the peninsula’s western side and borders parts of the Ningaloo coastline.
- Access: Located on the North West Cape, the park lies adjacent to the Ningaloo Marine Park and is commonly accessed from the town of Exmouth.
- Best time to visit: Best visited in the dry months when inland tracks and gorges are most accessible and marine conditions for nearby snorkeling are calmer.
