Calydon

Calydon is an ancient city of Aetolia in western Greece, known from classical history and Greek myth. It was an important regional centre in antiquity and figures in stories such as the Calydonian Boar hunt.

The archaeological site contains remains of the city’s acropolis, sections of fortification walls and traces of habitation from the Archaic and Classical periods. Visitors encounter visible stonework and terraced slopes that mark the ancient urban layout.

Historically Calydon served as a polis in Aetolia and later participated in regional political structures such as the Aetolian League during the classical era. Its prominence in myth and history has made it a subject of archaeological study.

The ruins lie in the modern regional unit of Aetolia-Acarnania in Western Greece, close to the Evinos River and rural road networks that connect the site to nearby towns and the coastal plain.
