Cabrera, Balearic Islands
Island Protected Balearic island and maritime national park
A short boat ride south of Mallorca, Cabrera is a national park with marine reserves and coastal fortifications; day trips focus on snorkeling, diving and a hike up to the island’s castle.
Cabrera is the largest island of the Cabrera archipelago off the southern coast of Mallorca in the Balearic Islands of Spain, and forms the core of the Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park. The island group is valued for its largely uninhabited character and protected marine and terrestrial habitats.
The main draws are coastal scenery, clear waters for snorkeling and diving, and restricted, low-density visitor access that preserves wildlife and marine life. Boat trips from Mallorca bring day visitors to the island’s harbour and coastal trails; there are limited facilities on the island itself.
Historically the archipelago has been sparsely populated and used intermittently for fishing and military purposes; formal protection increased in the late 20th century to conserve its ecosystems. The island’s land-use has remained tightly controlled since designation as a protected area.
The island lies off the southern coast of Mallorca, roughly to the south of the main island, and is reached by boat from ports on Mallorca.
- Access and visitor limits: Access from Mallorca is by scheduled or charter boat services and private excursions, with visitor numbers regulated to protect the park's habitats.
- Marine protection and diving: The archipelago is a protected maritime-terrestrial area with marine reserves that make it a popular spot for diving and snorkeling.

Tips for Visiting Cabrera, Balearic Islands #
- Book a boat or landing permit in advance-Cabrera is an archipelago national park with limited daily visitor numbers and regulated landings, so seats on tourist boats from Mallorca (Colònia de Sant Jordi/Cabrera routes) can sell out.
