Bürgenstock

Bürgenstock is a prominent ridge and resort area above the north shore of Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland, known for hotel development, panoramic terraces and mountain facilities. The site combines historic hospitality buildings with engineered features and walking routes.

Key attractions include hotel terraces and gardens, a network of walking trails and viewpoints over Lake Lucerne, and the mechanically notable Hammetschwand Lift, which connects lower walkways to a cliff-top observation platform roughly 152 metres up. Boat and funicular links make the ridge easily reachable from lakeside towns.

The ridge developed as a luxury resort area in the 19th and early 20th centuries and remains associated with hospitality and panoramic leisure. Engineering additions such as the lift were installed to improve access to the summit viewpoints and have become signature features.

Bürgenstock sits on the shore of Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland within the Canton of Lucerne area, accessible by boat from Lucerne and by road and funicular from nearby lakeside settlements.
