Brzeg Castle

Brzeg Castle is a Renaissance-era ducal residence on the Oder river in Brzeg, Opole Voivodeship, Poland. It served as the seat of the Silesian Piast dukes and is one of the town’s principal historic monuments.

The castle complex includes a multi-wing ducal palace, a tall castle tower, defensive walls and a museum with regional archaeological and historical displays. Visitors commonly tour the palace interiors and climb the tower for views over the town and the river.

The site has medieval origins as a fortified ducal seat and underwent major Renaissance rebuilding in the 16th century, which produced much of the visible architecture today. Over time the castle’s functions shifted from ducal residence to various administrative and cultural uses and it now houses museum collections.

The castle stands on the north bank of the Oder river within the town of Brzeg in southwestern Poland, forming a central feature of the town’s historic core.
