Brunswick Cathedral (Braunschweiger Dom, St. Blasius) is a medieval cathedral in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, whose principal construction dates to the 12th century. It served as the ducal church for the medieval rulers of the region and remains a landmark of Romanesque architecture with later modifications.
Notable inside the cathedral is the tomb monument of Duke Henry the Lion, an important medieval ruler, and other dynastic memorials that underpin the building’s historical significance. The cathedral combines Romanesque massing with Gothic and later additions dating from subsequent centuries.
The structure was built as the collegiate and ducal church for the Brunswick court and has undergone restorations and reconstructions over time following damage in various periods. Its role has been both religious and funerary for the ruling house.
The cathedral stands on Burgplatz in the centre of Braunschweig, adjacent to Dankwarderode Castle and other medieval town landmarks, making it a focal point of the historic urban core.

Brunswick (Braunschweig) Cathedral is in Braunschweig city centre at Burgplatz. From Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof it is an easy 10-15 minute walk into the old town and the cathedral. If arriving from the nearest major city, Hannover, regional trains (RE/RB) run to Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof; the drive from Hannover to Braunschweig is about 60 km (roughly 30-50 minutes on the A2 depending on traffic).
