Bruges City Hall

Bruges City Hall is the late medieval city hall of Bruges, located on Burg Square in the historic centre; its current Gothic façade dates to the late 14th and early 15th centuries. It is one of the oldest city halls in the Low Countries and a focal point of the Burg precinct.

The principal interior highlight is the vaulted Gothic assembly hall, which features carved wooden elements and period decoration; the façade is decorated with niches of stone statues and ornamental tracery. The building sits directly beside the Basilica of the Holy Blood and is a short walk from the Markt, making it part of the core historic ensemble visitors see in central Bruges.

Construction of the present stone city hall began in the late 14th century and continued into the early 15th century, replacing earlier municipal buildings. The hall has undergone restorations, notably in the 19th century when some sculptural decoration and façade work were renewed.

The city hall occupies Burg Square in central Bruges, within the compact medieval core of the city and a short walk from the Markt. Bruges lies in northwest Belgium, roughly northwest of Brussels, and the city hall is immediately accessible from the historic centre.
