The Brilon Plateau is a highland area in the Sauerland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, surrounding the town of Brilon and forming part of the Rhenish Massif.
The plateau is characterized by mixed forests, pastureland, and rolling upland terrain with typical elevations roughly in the mid-hundreds of metres. It is used for hiking, forestry, and rural agriculture, with local trails and minor roads crossing the area.
Geologically the plateau is a raised section of the Rhenish Massif shaped by long-term uplift and erosion, with soils and land use reflecting postglacial landscape development. Settlement and land management have long focused on forestry and small-scale farming.
Geographically the plateau lies immediately around the town of Brilon in the Hochsauerland district, within the broader Sauerland uplands of central Germany.
