Bremen Cathedral

Bremen Cathedral (St. Petri Dom) is a medieval church in the centre of Bremen, Germany, that serves as the city’s historic cathedral dedicated to St Peter. Its fabric reflects multiple phases of Romanesque and Gothic construction.

The site includes a nave, aisles and a preserved crypt with masonry from the cathedral’s earliest construction, together with towers and exterior elevations showing later Gothic work. Internal fittings and artworks reflect centuries of ecclesiastical use.

Origins of the cathedral date to the medieval period with construction beginning in the 11th century; it has undergone successive modifications, restorations and additions through the Middle Ages and into the modern era. The building has remained an ecclesiastical and civic landmark in Bremen throughout these changes.

The cathedral stands on the Domshof in central Bremen, adjacent to the historic town hall and close to the city’s main market quarter.
