VASP

Main image

VASP is a defunct Brazilian passenger airline that ceased operations in 2005 and therefore cannot be booked for travel. From a traveler’s perspective the most important fact is that it no longer provides flights; any tickets or frequent‑flyer arrangements linked to VASP are not active.

Historically the airline operated primarily within Brazil from São Paulo airports including Congonhas (CGH) and Guarulhos (GRU), with a mix of domestic and some international services, but it has no current alliance membership or active route network.

Frequent Flyer Program

VASP does not have an active frequent-flyer program since the airline ceased operations; there is no current program to earn or redeem miles for travel. Any historical loyalty program benefits are no longer available for booking or redemption.

Where VASP Flew

VASP is a defunct carrier and does not operate any routes today. When it was active it was centered on São Paulo, operating from Congonhas (CGH) and São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU) and mainly served domestic Brazilian markets with some international services. Any current travel needs should be met by other airlines serving those São Paulo airports.

Aircraft and Cabin Classes

Historically VASP operated a mix of piston, turboprop and jet aircraft over its lifetime. Its equipment included early piston and prop types and regional turboprops such as the Embraer EMB-110 and NAMC YS-11, short/medium-haul jets like the BAC One-Eleven and Boeing 737 family, and larger jet types including Boeing 707/727 and Airbus A300/A310 for longer or higher-capacity routes. As a legacy full-service carrier in its later years, long-haul or widebody aircraft typically carried multiple cabin classes while short-haul narrowbodies were generally configured primarily for economy travel.

Aircraft types operated: Saab 90 Scandia, Douglas DC-3, Douglas DC-4, Douglas DC-6, Curtiss C-46 Commando, Junkers Ju 52/3m, Vickers Viscount 700, Vickers Viscount 800, NAMC YS-11, Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirante, de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, BAC One-Eleven, Boeing 707, Boeing 727-100, Boeing 727-200, Boeing 737-300, Boeing 737-400, Airbus A300, Airbus A310

Tips for Flying VASP

  • VASP no longer operates and cannot be booked for travel; look for alternative carriers for any planned itinerary within or to/from Brazil.
  • If you encounter a ticket issued under VASP, contact the travel agency or the card issuer immediately to request a refund or chargeback, since the airline ceased operations.
  • There is no active frequent-flyer program to credit flights to, so do not expect miles or status accrual for any VASP-branded ticket.
  • For historical or research interest in VASP route maps or aircraft, consult aviation museums, archives, or historical timetables rather than expecting current services.
