Bratislava Castle

Bratislava Castle is a hilltop fortress and landmark overlooking the Danube in Slovakia’s capital, with a rectangular four-towered silhouette that dominates the city skyline. The site has been occupied since ancient and medieval times and is a central historical monument for Bratislava.

The complex houses museum exhibitions that present regional history, archaeology and the castle’s own architectural development, while the terrace provides expansive views over the Danube, the Old Town and into neighboring Austria and Hungary on clear days. Severely damaged by fire in 1811, the structure remained largely ruined until major restoration and reconstruction took place in the 20th century, returning it to museum and ceremonial uses.
