Bourscheid Castle is a medieval hilltop castle in northern Luxembourg, in the Canton of Diekirch. It occupies a commanding position on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Sûre valley and is one of the more substantial castle ruins in the country.
The complex comprises curtain walls, towers and inner wards arranged along the ridge; the visible structures include substantial masonry curtain walls and defensive towers. The site is a frequent day-visit destination for views and castle archaeology.
The castle originated in the medieval period and was expanded and modified through the Middle Ages; it fell into partial ruin and underwent stabilisation and restoration in the 20th century to arrest decay and make sections safe for visitors.
Bourscheid Castle sits above the Sûre (Sauer) river in north-central Luxembourg near the village of Bourscheid, in a rural landscape of wooded valleys and fields and within driving distance of Diekirch.
