Bonn Minster

Bonn Minster (Bonner Münster) is a Roman Catholic church in the centre of Bonn with origins in the 11th century and is regarded as one of Germany’s older major churches. It is dedicated to Saints Cassius and Florentius and combines Romanesque and later Gothic elements.

The building’s principal features include a long nave in the Romanesque manner and a Gothic choir area added in later centuries. The exterior shows characteristic Romanesque massing with later stylistic additions; the church stands on Münsterplatz and is prominent in Bonn’s cityscape.

Construction began in the medieval period and continued with phases of rebuilding and alteration across the Middle Ages and later centuries, reflecting changing liturgical and architectural trends. It has served continuously as a collegiate and parish church and remains active for worship and civic ceremonies.

The Minster sits on Münsterplatz in Bonn’s historic centre, within walking distance of the Rhine and Hauptbahnhof (the main railway station). The site functions as a focal point for the old town and nearby municipal buildings.
