Biriciana

Biriciana is the Roman fort complex at Weißenburg in Bavaria, Germany, representing a military installation from the Roman period in the region. The site is a principal component of the local Roman archaeological landscape and the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes.

Excavated stone foundations and visible rampart lines mark the fort’s footprint and are presented in an open-air archaeological park. The adjacent RömerMuseum Weißenburg displays artifacts recovered on site and explains Roman military organisation and daily life.

The fort was constructed and used during the Roman occupation of the region and formed part of the frontier infrastructure guarding the limes. Archaeological work over the 19th and 20th centuries exposed the fort plan and produced the finds now shown in the museum.

The site sits within the town of Weißenburg in Bayern in central Bavaria, on the corridor of the former Roman frontier known as the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes. It is readily reached from the town centre and is integrated into local cultural-heritage trails.

• RömerMuseum Weißenburg: A local archaeological museum presenting finds from the fort and surrounding limes, with interpretive displays about Roman military life and regional excavations. The museum sits adjacent to the excavated fort area and supports visits to the outdoor remains.
• Archaeological park and excavated remains: An open-air archaeological park that preserves exposed foundations and reconstructed sections of the fort and its immediate surroundings, allowing visitors to follow the footprint of the Roman installation.
