The Bihor Mountains are a mountain range in western Romania, forming part of the Apuseni Mountains in the Western Romanian Carpathians. The range contains karstic terrain, alpine pastures and forested slopes.
Hiking, mountain walking and nature observation are the main attractions; trails lead to ridges, viewpoints and mountain pastures. The range’s highest point is Cucurbăta Mare (Bihor Peak) at 1,849 metres, which is a common target for walkers.
Geologically the area is characterized by limestone and associated karst features; the landscape has been shaped by long-term erosion and glacial influence in higher parts. Traditional pastoralism and forestry have long been part of land use in the range.
