Biberkopf
Mountain Alpine peak on Germany-Austria border, popular climb
Alpine peak on the Austria-Germany border in the Allgäu Alps, popular with hikers and scramblers. Routes offer steep ridges, alpine views and access to classic mountain huts.
Biberkopf is a mountain in the Allgäu Alps that straddles the border between Austria and Germany. Its summit reaches 2,599 metres and it is a prominent peak on the main alpine ridge in this sector.
The summit ridge marks part of the state boundary between Bavaria (Germany) and Tyrol (Austria) and is approached by mountain routes from both sides. The ascent involves steep sections and short scrambles rather than technical alpine climbing on the easiest routes.
As a natural summit it has no constructed history; it has long been part of alpine mountain use by shepherds and mountaineers and is included in regional mountaineering guides. It is commonly climbed by hillwalkers and peak baggers visiting the Allgäu Alps.
Biberkopf sits on the main ridge of the Allgäu Alps in the eastern Alps, immediately adjacent to the Austria-Germany border and surrounded by high alpine terrain and other 2,000-plus metre peaks.
- Elevation and border: Summit elevation is 2,599 metres, and the peak sits on the border between Austria and Germany.
