How to Get to Berane
Berane is most commonly reached by intercity bus from Podgorica or other Montenegrin towns; there is no regular passenger rail service directly into Berane. During the summer, Tivat is an alternative airport but travel times by road are longer.
Podgorica Airport (TGD): Podgorica is the nearest major airport with scheduled international flights. From Podgorica there are direct intercity buses and taxi services to Berane; the bus journey takes about 2-2.5 hours and costs roughly €6-10. A private taxi is quicker (around 1.5-2 hours) but will cost around €80-100.
Tivat Airport (TIV): Tivat serves the coastal region and is an alternative in summer for some inbound flights. Road travel to Berane is longer (roughly 2.5-3 hours) and transfers are available by bus or taxi; expect bus fares similar to Podgorica but longer travel times.
Train: Berane is not on Montenegro’s main passenger rail network; regular long-distance trains do not serve the town. The nearest rail services are limited and generally not useful for most international travellers to Berane.
Bus: Intercity buses are the primary public transport for Berane with regular connections to Podgorica, Bijelo Polje, and other Montenegrin towns. Bus fares to Podgorica and nearby cities are typically €4-10 and journey times vary from 1-3 hours depending on route and stops.
How to Get Around Berane #
Berane’s centre is easy to cover on foot and most everyday needs are within walking distance. Regional buses and minivans connect Berane with other Montenegrin towns such as Bijelo Polje, Podgorica and Andrijevica; taxis are available for shorter trips. Public transport fares are modest-expect a few euros for regional journeys. A car gives you more flexibility for exploring surrounding mountains and rural areas, where services are less frequent.
