The cave is typically visited by sea - commercial boat tours, private boats and kayak trips are the usual access methods - and is one of the most photographed coastal features on the Algarve. Sea conditions can change quickly, so most visitors go with guided operators.
The cave and surrounding limestone cliffs are the result of marine erosion on the southern Portuguese coast. The site is part of the Algarve’s wider coastal landscape of cliffs, beaches and sea stacks.
