Belgrade Zoo is located inside Kalemegdan Park beside the Belgrade Fortress in the city centre. It’s within comfortable walking distance (about 15-20 minutes) from Republic Square and the main pedestrian street Knez Mihailova; many city buses and tram/trolley routes stop near Kalemegdan (check local timetables for exact lines). From Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport the drive is roughly 20-30 km (around 30-40 minutes depending on traffic) via the E‑75/E‑70 corridor.
Tips for Visiting Belgrade Zoo #
- Enter via Kalemegdan Park so you can combine the zoo visit with the fortress and riverside views - the zoo is located inside the park and that route is the most convenient on foot.
- Arrive at opening time on weekdays to see animals when they tend to be most active and to avoid the larger family crowds that build later in the day.
- If you plan to visit both the fortress and zoo, tackle the zoo first (morning) and leave the fortress for later in the day when light and viewpoints over the rivers are best.
