Basilica Palladiana

The Basilica Palladiana is a landmark civic building in the central square of Vicenza, Italy, characterised by Andrea Palladio’s 16th-century marble loggia applied to an earlier civic structure. It is a celebrated example of Renaissance architecture and one of Palladio’s most influential urban commissions.

The building’s exterior is defined by a double order of large arches and classical motifs that form the white marble façade visible from Piazza dei Signori. Internally the upper Salone was used for civic assemblies and now hosts exhibitions, while the rooftop terraces offer elevated views across the city.

The project transformed the medieval palace into a Renaissance civic emblem during the mid-1500s and has been conserved and adapted for cultural use, including temporary exhibitions and public events. Its architectural significance is recognised internationally and it forms a central element of Vicenza’s historic core.

Located in Vicenza’s historic centre, the Basilica sits on Piazza dei Signori and is within easy walking distance of other Palladian sites and the city’s main transport nodes.
