The Barossa Valley lies northeast of Adelaide in South Australia, in a river valley and rolling hills that support viticulture and tourism; the region is reached by road from Adelaide and from nearby regional centres.

- Book winery visits in advance-many of the region's cellar doors require reservations for tastings, especially on weekends.
- Visit early in the harvest season (Feb-Mar) for vineyard activity and late afternoon for flattering light on the vines.
- Drive the Old Mill Road for scenic vineyard views and fewer tour buses than the main tourist routes.
