Banjska Monastery

Banjska Monastery is a medieval Serbian Orthodox monastic foundation situated near the village of Banjska in the District of Mitrovica. It was established in the early 14th century and served as a royal endowment and ecclesiastical centre.

The complex includes the remains of a principal church and associated monastic buildings, with visible medieval stonework and fragments of interior decoration. The site is of interest for its architecture and for students of medieval Serbian religious foundations.

The monastery was founded in the early 14th century by King Stefan Milutin as a royal endowment and burial church, and it functioned as an important ecclesiastical centre in the medieval Serbian state. Over subsequent centuries the complex fell into decline and partial ruin, with periods of damage and later conservation and restoration work documented in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Banjska Monastery lies in north Kosovo, in the Mitrovica district, on a hillside near the village that gives it its name. The site sits among rural land and smaller settlements north of the city of Mitrovica.
