Denpasar hosts the Bali Arts Festival, a provincial showcase created in the late 20th century to preserve and promote Balinese performing and visual arts across generations. It brings together village troupes, master craftsmen and contemporary artists in one month-long cultural spotlight.

The festival atmosphere mixes ceremonial formality with market bustle: staged performances on open-air and indoor stages, art exhibitions, workshops and dozens of stalls selling textiles, woodcarving and painting.
