Axios-Loudias-Aliakmonas Delta National Park

Axios-Loudias-Aliakmonas Delta National Park protects the coastal delta formed by the Axios (Vardar), Loudias and Aliakmonas rivers in Central Macedonia and is an important wetland area for birds and other wildlife.

The delta features reedbeds, marshes, and shallow lagoons that support large numbers of waterbirds and migratory species; it is visited for birdwatching, guided walks and for wetland habitat interpretation. Observation hides and marked trails enable wildlife viewing with minimal disturbance.

The area has long been a natural delta shaped by river deposits; modern conservation measures established the national park to protect habitats and biodiversity in the face of agricultural and coastal development. The site is also monitored for its role in regional ecology and migration routes.

Located in Central Macedonia near the Thermaic Gulf, the delta lies west of Thessaloniki and forms a low-lying coastal landscape where the three rivers enter the Aegean Sea.
