Averau is a mountain in the Dolomites of the Veneto region in northern Italy. The peak stands above 2,600 metres and forms part of the rocky, vertically layered limestone and dolomite ridges typical of the range.
Routes to the summit include steep hiking and scrambling lines used by experienced walkers and climbers; the mountain offers panoramic views across nearby groups such as the Cinque Torri and the Marmolada massif. Mountain huts and marked trails in the area support multi-day and day trips.
The Dolomites, including Averau, were formed from Mesozoic carbonate sediments uplifted and sculpted by glacial and erosional processes over millions of years. The mountain has long been part of local alpine use for grazing, mountaineering and wartime activity in the early 20th century.
Averau sits near the Passo Falzarego area in the eastern Dolomites of Veneto, accessible from road passes and trailheads used by hikers and climbers. The nearest notable mountain passes and tourist towns are in the Cortina d’Ampezzo/Colle Santa Lucia area.
