The Aurunci Mountains (Monti Aurunci) are a compact mountain range in southern Lazio, Italy, forming part of the Apennine system in that area. The range reaches its highest elevation at Monte Petrella and forms a distinct coastal-facing ridge above the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Hikers and nature visitors use trails that lead to summits and ridges with wide views over the coastline and nearby Pontine islands. The terrain includes typical Mediterranean mountain vegetation and limestone outcrops.
The Aurunci are a long-established geographic feature of southern Lazio and have supported traditional mountain and pastoral activities in nearby communities; their geology and human use reflect typical Apennine patterns of settlement and agriculture.
The range lies between the provinces of Latina and Frosinone in the Lazio region, close to coastal towns such as Formia and Gaeta on Italy’s Tyrrhenian coast.

Nearest significant towns with train links include Fondi and Formia, from which local buses or taxis cover the final miles.
