Aslan Pasha Mosque
Mosque Ottoman-era mosque in Ioannina converted to cultural use
Inside Ioannina’s old town, the Aslan Pasha Mosque dates to Ottoman rule and now houses a municipal museum; visitors study Ottoman architecture and the nearby bazaar.
The Aslan Pasha Mosque is an Ottoman-era mosque in the city of Ioannina in Epirus, Greece, originally built by the Ottoman governor Aslan Pasha in the early 17th century. It is one of the best-known Ottoman monuments in the city.
Architecturally it follows the mosque plan of a single large prayer hall with adjoining courtyard and historically included a minaret and ancillary rooms. The building has been repurposed in modern times and now contains the Municipal Ethnographic Museum and related exhibition spaces.
Constructed in the early 1600s under Ottoman administration, the mosque served the Muslim population of Ioannina and later experienced changes in use after Ottoman rule ended. Its conversion to a museum preserves the structure while adapting interior spaces for display.
The mosque is located in the historic quarter of Ioannina, close to the town’s old centre and near Lake Pamvotida, within the urban fabric of the city.
- Museum: Houses the city's Municipal Ethnographic Museum with displays related to the region's social and cultural history.
