Arranmore (Árainn Mhór) is an inhabited island off the northwest coast of County Donegal in Ireland, known for its maritime community and Gaelic-speaking heritage. It is one of the larger inhabited islands off Ireland’s west coast.
The island offers coastal walks, sea cliffs, and local cultural life concentrated in small settlements; wildlife viewing and boat trips around the island are common activities. Services and small shops are concentrated in the main village and ferry terminal.
Historically a fishing and farming community, Arranmore has long retained a distinct island culture and continued use of Irish; its population and economy have fluctuated with changes in fishing and tourism. Modern infrastructure includes a regular ferry link to the mainland.
Located off the coast of County Donegal, Arranmore lies west of the mainland town of Burtonport and is reached by a short ferry crossing from the Donegal coast.
- Gaeltacht island: One of Ireland's Gaeltacht islands where Irish (Gaeilge) is still spoken by a portion of the community, offering a living linguistic and cultural experience.
- Ferry terminal: Main ferry services land at the island's principal village, Leabgarrow, which is the island's primary port and settlement.
