Arauco, Chile Travel Guide
City City in Biobío with coastal access
Arauco sits on the Gulf of Arauco where fishermen land their catch; travelers come for seafood markets, coastal walks, nearby Mapuche communities and access to local surf breaks along the rocky shore.
Why Visit Arauco, Chile? #
Coastal cliffs, wind‑sculpted beaches and Mapuche heritage give Arauco a distinct coastal‑forest appeal that draws visitors off Chile’s main tourist tracks. Fresh seafood-from ceviche to local clams and machas-powers small family restaurants, while Mapuche weaving and woodcraft remain visible in town markets. It’s also a doorway to the Biobío Region’s fishing villages and rocky headlands, offering a rugged, less crowded alternative to the country’s better‑known seaside resorts.
