Angoulême Cathedral
Religious Site Romanesque-Gothic cathedral dominating Angoulême's skyline
A Romanesque cathedral dominating Angoulême’s old town, noted for sculpted capitals and a prominent west façade. Visitors study medieval stonework and local viewpoints over tiled roofs.
The Antequera Dolmens Site is a prehistoric megalithic complex near the town of Antequera in Andalusia, southern Spain, comprising major monuments including the dolmens of Menga and Viera and the tholos of El Romeral. The ensemble represents significant funerary and ritual architecture from prehistoric Iberia and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016.
The site’s principal features are three major tombs with accessible chambers: two passage graves and a later tholos. Visitors can see orthostatic stone chambers, entrance passages and corbelled masonry that illustrate different megalithic construction methods.
Constructed by Neolithic and Bronze Age communities during the third and second millennia BCE, the monuments were used for collective burial and ritual activities and have been the focus of archaeological study and preservation. The visible structures retain original stone work that illustrates ancient engineering and social practices.
The dolmens lie on the Antequera plain close to the modern town of Antequera in inland Andalusia, between the provinces of Málaga and Granada.
- UNESCO designation: Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016 for its state of preservation and significance in European prehistory.
- Visitor access: Visitors can enter some chambers and view megalithic construction techniques that span Neolithic to Bronze Age periods.
What to See #

- El Romeral: A later tholos-style burial with a corbelled chamber and distinct construction techniques that contrast with the two passage graves.
